A total of 30 Nursing Students took part in the three-day workshop that took place from 25th to 27th December 2022 at Villa College. The aim of this workshop was to build upon the revised 2018 Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, the latest version of the guidance for implementing the BFHI in facilities providing maternity and newborn services and the World Health Organization (WHO) Implementation guidance: protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding in facilities providing maternity and newborn services. Breastfeeding is fundamental to the health and development of children, and important for the health of their mothers. The first few hours and days of a newborn baby’s life is a critical window for establishing breastfeeding and for providing mothers with the support they need to breastfeed successfully. Hence, Faculty of Health Science of Villa College with collaboration of HPA and UNICEF conduct a three days workshop to Diploma in Nursing students to become the breastfeeding counselors."
During the ceremony, special guest Ms. Aishath Shahula Ahmed and the Rector of Villa College noted just how much of a positive impact breast feeding counselling can bring about to the country both in maintaining a healthy youth and the economy of the country as well.
